With the launch of Visual Studio 2010 on 12th April we thought running an Open Spaces Coding day the following weekend would be a great way to get upto speed with this exiting new release.
Bring along a laptop and meetup with likeminded devlopers looking at understanding how to take advantage of some of the new features offerd by Visual Studio 2010 and version 4 of the .net framework.
Lunch is provided curtosy of Microsoft.
An Open Spaces Event
Open Space Technology is an approach for hosting meetings, conferences, corporate-style retreats and community summit events, focused on a specific and important purpose or task -- but beginning without any formal agenda, beyond the overall purpose or theme.
The approach is most distinctive for its initial lack of an agenda, which sets the stage for the meeting's participants to create the agenda for themselves, in the first 30-90 minutes of the meeting or event. Typically, an Open Space meeting will begin with short introductions by the facilitator. The facilitator introduces the purpose and explains the "self-organizing" process. Then the group creates the working agenda, as individuals post their issues in bulletin board style.
There are Four Principles and The One Law.
- Whoever comes are the right people.
- Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
- When it starts, it starts.
- When it's over, it's over.
There also exists a tentative "law", usually referred to as the "Law of Two Feet" which reads as follows: If at any time during our time together you find yourself in any situation where you are neither learning nor contributing, use your two feet. Go to some other place where you may learn and contribute.

Midlands Developer Network
The Midlands Developer Network is a User Group covering the Midlands regions of the United Kingdom. We have technical meetings covering Development topics every month.
Meeting Format
We meet every second Tuesday of every month, most of the time:). Each meeting normally consists of a introduction to a technology from an industry expert from the UK, Europe and beyond. Following on from this introduction everybody works in small groups to get to grips with technolgy whilst the expert and other experienced developer answer qestions and profer advice. THroughout the event we have food and refreshments avaiable and encourace you to find time for you to chat with the other attendees.
Meeting Location
All meetings are held at the HDTI building in the Coventry University Technology Park. We are very grateful to the University for providing this facility to us.
What Does it Cost?
Nothing, Zilch, Nada! All of our meetings are free to attend, we don’t intend to charge for any of our meetings. We provide our time for organising and arranging our events. Speakers kindly offer their time for free.
We provide cold refreshments free of however we do operate an donation box whereby if you enjoyed the event and would like to see more, please put a small donation in the box during the meeting to help us to cover the costs of the purchase of the food. Any monies left over from this at the end of the year are used to provide giveaways and prizes for the group for the following year.
